On Monday, December 16, the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec was notified that unexploded ordnance—a rocket projectile from World War II—had been found at the construction site of a nursery next to the Krasnoludki preschool in Jędrzychowice. Its blast radius was determined to be 1 km.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene. Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol No. 23 from the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec was also notified.
The bomb disposal operation began today. Residents of Jędrzychowice were evacuated. Traffic on this section of the A4 motorway and on the Węgliniec–Zgorzelec railway line was halted.
The soldiers from Bolesławiec are expected to work for up to three hours. This is not the first piece of unexploded ordnance found in the area, so the officers also intend to thoroughly search the vicinity.
