In recent days, Bolesławiec police received reports of three attempted frauds targeting elderly people. A man posing as a police officer tried to convince seniors that their money was at risk and had to be withdrawn from the bank immediately. He then instructed them to hand it over to officers. All the attempts were unsuccessful because the seniors were not deceived and ended the conversation with the fraudster.

KPP Bolesławiec:

Let us remember that the principle of limited trust toward strangers applies not only to children. Adults often forget about it and become victims of their own gullibility and lack of caution.

The officers add:

Unexpected calls from people claiming to be family members—long-unseen grandchildren, nieces or nephews, or cousins—do not have to end in financial loss if we follow two basic rules:

  • do not let ourselves be deceived! Discuss unusual situations that happen to us with other family members
  • report any suspicious requests to borrow money to the police.
