General Police Headquarters:
The campaign will focus on conducting as many vehicle exhaust-emissions tests as possible on vehicles for which there is reasonable suspicion that they violate environmental-protection requirements.
Officers will pay attention to vehicles whose excessive smoke and noise indicate damage to the exhaust system or improper engine operation.
For this purpose, police officers will use inspection and measurement devices, including exhaust-gas analyzers and smoke meters. The officers state: “If it is established or reasonably suspected that a vehicle violates environmental-protection requirements, the police officer is obliged to retain the vehicle registration certificate and prohibit further driving of the defective vehicle.”
The officers add:
By driving technically roadworthy vehicles, we help maintain good air quality, especially in large cities, and additionally improve road safety.
