The chase took place on Tuesday, December 10, in the evening. During a patrol, district officers from the Lubań police station spotted a man they recognized as a wanted person driving a VW Passat passenger car. The officers signaled for the driver to stop. However, he ignored them, accelerated and began to flee.
The police pursued the vehicle through Uniegoszcz and Mściszów. It eventually entered Bolesławiec County. The fugitive sped through Gościszów, Ocice, then Nowogrodziec, Milików and once again Nowogrodziec. To prevent his arrest, he drove across the entire width of the road, forcing oncoming vehicles to pull onto the shoulder.
The duty officer at the Lubań County Police Headquarters kept the Bolesławiec duty officer informed about the chase. A decision was made to set up a police roadblock in the Nowogrodziec municipality.
The 46-year-old resident of Lubań County was arrested. It emerged that the man was wanted because he had a prison sentence to serve, and the car he was driving had been stolen in Żagań County.
The man was taken into police custody, and the stolen vehicle was secured. The 46-year-old was charged with handling stolen goods and failing to stop for a traffic inspection. He will also be held responsible for causing a road traffic hazard.
Moreover, separate proceedings are underway against the 46-year-old, in which the prosecutor charged him with possession of narcotic drugs.
The man could now face a sentence of between three months and as much as five years in prison.
