A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 1 December, after 5:00 p.m., on the road between Nowogrodziec and Gierałtów. The driver of an Audi, a 30-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County, hit a 30-year-old resident of our county. As we managed to establish, the latter was walking on the wrong side of the road and was not wearing any reflective element.

As the volunteer firefighters from Nowogrodziec wrote on their Facebook profile volunteer firefighters from Nowogrodziec:

When we arrived at the scene, the injured person had no vital signs. We began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Unfortunately, after the emergency medical team arrived, the doctor pronounced the victim dead as a result of the injuries.

Police and the prosecutor’s office are investigating the case. The Audi driver was sober.

Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters:

We remind you that pedestrians are required to wear reflective elements. To ensure their safety, pedestrians must make sure they are visible on the road. Pedestrians—as so-called vulnerable road users—are completely defenseless against speeding vehicles. An accident involving them has extremely serious consequences. Police officers appeal to pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads, especially when walking along the shoulder and crossing the roadway.

Police officers add:

Let us remember that driving too fast puts our own lives and the lives of others at risk. The speed limit during heavy rain or snowfall does not always mean that it is a safe speed.
