Police officers from the Zgorzelec traffic unit, while on duty in the Węgliniec municipality, attempted to stop an Audi for a traffic check. However, despite the visual and audible signals, the driver did not stop; on the contrary, he accelerated and began to flee.
After a while, he turned onto an unpaved road, lost control of the vehicle and damaged it. The 27-year-old driver and the 34-year-old Audi passenger were detained.
It turned out that the 27-year-old did not have a driving licence, and the vehicle he was driving was not authorised for road use.
Moreover, it emerged that the suspect had got behind the wheel under the influence of methamphetamine. What is more, an envelope containing nearly 30 grams of marijuana was found on him.
The man was charged with failing to stop for a traffic check and possessing narcotic drugs. The prosecutor placed him under police supervision.
The extremely irresponsible driver now faces up to five years in prison.
