Local government officials, representatives of the national administration, and members of the business and academic communities will take part in a debate on the role of territorial self-government in contemporary Poland.

– In my opinion, one of the most successful reforms carried out after 1989 was the local government reform. Naturally, I will cite Lower Silesia as an example: today it is among the fastest-developing regions in Europe. We owe this success, among other things, to good cooperation between local governments at different levels, as well as cooperation between local governments and the business and academic communities, universities, research and development centers, and non-governmental organizations – says Marshal Cezary Przybylski.

The seventh Local Government Congress is an opportunity for representatives of various industries and sectors to exchange views on the most important challenges facing Lower Silesia. Panelists will seek an answer to how the relationship between the central authorities and territorial self-government should look. They will also address the changes that Poland is now on the threshold of.

The program includes a discussion on ecology in Lower Silesia, particularly in the context of low-emission forms of transport, clean air, and waste management.

– If we want public transport to become a real alternative to cars, we must think about a diverse offering: well-functioning regional and metropolitan rail services. Such a solution means not only greater travel safety and easier access to work, school, university, a doctor, or tourist attractions, but also an effective tool in the fight for clean air. I am pleased that during the Congress we will address this exceptionally important topic in the context of regional development – says Tymoteusz Myrda, Member of the Voivodeship Board and one of the panelists.

The final, third discussion panel will be devoted to the healthcare system in Lower Silesia, particularly effective oncological and psychiatric prevention. Another important topic will be the newly emerging Lower Silesian Oncology, Pulmonology and Hematology Hospital in Wrocław.

The Congress will be hosted by Agnieszka Gozdyra from “Polsat News,” Bogusław Chrabota – Editor-in-Chief of “Rzeczpospolita,” and Agnieszka Kapłon-Kulig from TVP3 Wrocław.

Among the guests invited to the discussion are, among others: Member of Parliament Małgorzata Tracz, Irena Krzyszkiewicz – Mayor of Góra, Katarzyna Kapuścinska – Director of the Lower Silesian Specialist Hospital named after Marciniak in Wrocław, Michał Dworczyk – Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Robert Raczyński – Mayor of Lubin, Lower Silesian regional assembly member Dariusz Stasiak, Professor Kazimierz Kik, and Professor of Medical Sciences Andrzej Kiejna. Representatives of the Voivodeship Board will also participate in the debates – Marshal Cezary Przybylski, Deputy Marshal Marcin Krzyżanowski and Grzegorz Macko, as well as Board Member Tymoteusz Myrda.

The Seventh Lower Silesian Local Government Congress will take place at 20 November 2019 at Stadion Wrocław, 1 Śląska Avenue. Participation in the event is free of charge. Registration takes place via umwd.dolnyslask.pl.
