Officers from the Road Traffic Department of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters stopped a heavy goods vehicle for inspection on provincial road no. 297. It was traveling at more than 110 km/h in a place where the speed limit is 70 km/h.
The driver turned out to be a 60-year-old resident of Wielkopolskie Voivodeship. When the police began checking the tachograph to read the working time and speed, it turned out that—at least according to the recorder—the vehicle had not been moving at all for some time.
Police:
It quickly became clear why the tachograph showed such a record. In order to drive for longer, the driver interfered with the device’s operation by using a magnet on the gearbox.
The 60-year-old, who wanted to deliver the goods to Italy on time, planned to deceive the tachograph as far as the Polish-German border.
The Wielkopolska resident will now be held responsible for interfering with the accuracy of the measurement and exceeding the permitted speed. He faces up to five years in prison.
