Officers from the Economic Crime Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters and the Border Guard Post in Legnica conducted a joint operation during which they detained a 49-year-old man.
The Legnica resident was driving an Opel in which he was transporting illegal tobacco products and alcohol.
Moreover, during a search of the residential and utility rooms belonging to the detainee, officers found nearly 150,000 cigarettes, almost 30 kg of tobacco and 40 litres of spirits without Polish excise stamps.
The total losses to the State Treasury resulting from unpaid excise duty were estimated at PLN 140,000.
The Legnica resident now faces—apart from the forfeiture of the property—up to three years in prison and a substantial fine.
