In Bolesławiec, this is already the second fuel price miracle. The first miracle was the return of fuel prices to the average level. We all remember how, just a few months ago, fuel in the city of ceramics was as much as 30 groszy more expensive than at stations in neighboring counties. That is now a thing of the past. We are currently witnessing another miracle. This miracle concerns not only Bolesławiec, but the entire fuel market in the country.

Despite the rise in the price of crude oil, despite the attacks on refineries in Saudi Arabia, and finally, despite the zloty’s exchange rate, the price of fuel (Pb 95 and diesel) below PLN 5 per liter has remained low for a long time. Nothing affects it. Of course, this is great news for drivers. The only question is why the factors that, under normal economic conditions, affect fuel prices are not currently having an effect. It is speculated that this is happening in connection with the approaching elections. Are prices temporarily being kept low so as not to irritate voters? Why not? If electricity prices could be frozen, fuel prices can also be treated the same way temporarily.

The money.pl portal points out that low fuel prices before elections are nothing new:

Last year, before the local elections, prices at service stations also remained stable despite rising oil prices and the weakening zloty. Jacek Krawiec, former president of Orlen, suggested on recordings made at the Sowa i Przyjaciele restaurant that before the 2011 elections the company had understated fuel prices to ensure victory for the PO-PSL government. Meanwhile, Marek Belka’s government temporarily reduced the fuel excise duty before the elections.

Whether it is really true that before elections even fuel prices do not rise, contrary to economic factors, we will find out in just two weeks. For now, Carpe diem and fill up as much as you can.
