The portal tvn24.pl reports on the case. Łódź police came across the trail of the crime after receiving a notification that the whereabouts of an 88-year-old woman could not be established. Police officers determined that the elderly woman and her 57-year-old son had been temporarily living in the Municipality of Chocianów, in Polkowice County.
Further proceedings revealed that the woman was dead and that her son had been collecting her pension benefits for five years, totalling more than PLN 45,000. A witness’s testimony brought to light that the son had buried his deceased mother’s body in the garden adjoining the house. The woman’s body was found. A tracking dog helped the police locate it.
The man was charged, among other things, with failing to render assistance—it was established that he had not called an ambulance for his sick mother—desecrating a corpse, fraudulently obtaining benefits and concealing a pensioner’s identity card. The 57-year-old admitted guilt. He faces up to eight years in prison.
