The incident took place on Saturday, 24 August, before 9:00 p.m., on 1 Maja Street in Nowogrodziec. The driver of a Volkswagen, a 39-year-old resident of Nowogrodziec Municipality, drove onto the pavement, where three people were present: a 25-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man and an eight-month-old girl. (All three are residents of Bolesławiec County.)

The woman, who suffered broken ribs, and the child were taken to the hospital in Bolesławiec. The man, who sustained injuries to his leg, head and spine, was taken to a facility in Zgorzelec.

A woman who wishes to remain anonymous informed us that the injured man is still in the intensive care unit there. “He is fighting for his life,” added the resident of our county.

The infant has a fractured femur. (Although, as our interlocutor emphasised, if the mother had not been holding the child, it probably would not have survived, because practically nothing remained of the pram.)

What happens next? We have established that, by a decision of the prosecutor’s office, the 39-year-old’s driving licence was seized. Proceedings in the case are still ongoing.

We will certainly return to the subject.
