The aim of the operation, which will be conducted throughout Poland on Thursday, September 12, is to reduce the number of road accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists.

Komenda Główna Policji:

Road sections, intersections and pedestrian crossings where the risk of an accident is greatest will be monitored. Although the primary aim of the operation will be to enforce compliance with regulations closely related to the safety of vulnerable road users, police officers will pay attention to every unlawful behavior.

Officers emphasize:

The operation focuses on the safety of pedestrians and cyclists—road users who are in no way protected by a vehicle’s bodywork and are exposed to contact with it. It should be clearly emphasized that pedestrians are the group most at risk of accidents among so-called vulnerable road users.

They add:

Unfortunately, a significant proportion of incidents involving pedestrians being hit occur precisely at pedestrian crossings.

As part of the operations being conducted—already for the ninth time this year—officers will pay particular attention to drivers’ behavior toward pedestrians, especially around marked pedestrian crossings.
