The joy of the annual harvest celebration was overshadowed by a severe drought, which destroyed a large part of the crops and deprived farmers of their income. The losses are being assessed, and the farmers—thanks to whom we have our daily bread and something to go with it—do not give up easily. They are tough people, accustomed to hard work and its uncertain results.
Taught by experience, they know that the results of their toil and sweat depend not only on the effort put into the work. Sometimes the forces of nature prove merciless.
The farmers prayed before the harvest festivities that the coming year would be better and that their work would yield an abundant harvest. In his homily, Father Artur Kaproń, parish priest of the Parish of St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe in Osiecznica, recalled that the Gospel says that it was God Himself who commanded people to rejoice and celebrate after gathering the harvest. And so it happened.
