In October 2007, we wrote that another ceramics manufacturer had used an unusual promotional method. A three-metre bottle bearing the logo of the “Manufaktura” Stoneware Factory was placed at the roundabout on Zgorzelecka Street.

The model was placed at the roundabout on Zgorzelecka Street in agreement with the city authorities and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The bottle’s colour—especially its distinctive stamped decoration—immediately brought Bolesławiec ceramics to mind.

It did, because now it only disfigures the area. The bottle is battered. It also no longer bears the “Manufaktura” logo.

“We wanted to strongly emphasise the character of our town,” Paweł Zwierz, one of the co-owners of “Manufaktura”, told us in October 2007. “We hope that the bottle will attract the attention of foreign drivers.”

The battered model certainly catches the attention of passers-by, but does it effectively promote Bolesławiec ceramics? It was not yet known whether the bottle would be repainted. We were unable to contact Paweł Zwierz.

As Tomasz Rola from El-Toro explained to us, the bottle is being refurbished. For now, it has been coated with a special substance, and the old, flaking paint has been scraped off. This coming Monday, the bottle will look like new.
