Polish National Police Headquarters:

As part of the nationwide operation being conducted for the seventh time this year, officers will pay particular attention to the behavior of car drivers toward cyclists and pedestrians, placing locations where the risk of undesirable road incidents is greatest under special supervision.

Among so-called vulnerable road users, pedestrians are the group most at risk of accidents. In any collision, they usually suffer serious injuries. The were involved in 1,085 road accidents during the 2018 summer holidays alone; 133 people died and 995 were injured.

Most of these incidents were caused by vehicle drivers who failed to yield the right of way to pedestrians. Unfortunately, a significant proportion of pedestrian-vehicle collisions took place at pedestrian crossings—that is, where regulations provide pedestrians with special protection.
