The incident occurred on Thursday, July 11, at around 12:40 p.m. Fire broke out on the ground floor of a two-story building on Sienkiewicza Street in Nowogrodziec.

Community police officers from the police station in Nowogrodziec and the police post in Osiecznica were the first to arrive at the scene. They heard a woman shouting that there was a man inside. Without hesitation, they entered the room, which was already heavily smoke-filled.

They quickly found the injured man lying on the floor, showing no signs of life.

The officers carried the injured man outside, where firefighters provided him with first aid. It turned out that administering oxygen was enough for the man to regain consciousness.

While paramedics were checking whether the injured man needed specialist medical assistance, police officers established that the 33-year-old resident of Nowogrodziec municipality was wanted—he had to serve a six-month prison sentence for theft.

Five fire service units took part in the operation: three from Bolesławiec and two from the OSP KSRG Nowogrodziec volunteer fire service, as well as a medical rescue team and the police, who are determining the cause of the incident.
