Police officers make a special appeal to adults:

Even if it seems that dealing with something will take very little time, during heatwaves we should not leave those in our care alone in vehicles. In hot weather, the inside of a vehicle becomes a kind of greenhouse, where the temperature is much higher than outside. Let us not allow such dangerous situations to occur, in which a lack of caution could put human life at risk.

This concern should also extend to animals. Leaving four-legged animals in a car in high temperatures is—under the law—animal abuse, punishable under the relevant act by up to 2 years in prison.

Officers:

Let us not be indifferent. If we notice that a person or animal is in a situation threatening their life or health, inform the police by calling the emergency number 997 or 112. Police officers pay particular attention to such situations.

Let us also remember that if officers determine that leaving a dog or child in a car for an extended period poses a threat to their life, they have the right to use any means necessary to get them out of the vehicle—including breaking a window.
