Officers from the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters received a report of a vehicle theft. The owner had entered a shop only briefly, leaving the car with the keys inside and the engine running because of technical problems. The situation was quickly exploited by a 24-year-old man who was sitting at a nearby bus stop. Seeing the car with the keys inside, the man got in and drove away.
The duty officer immediately passed information about the theft to all police patrols, and after just 30 minutes the vehicle was located and stopped. The perpetrator turned out to be a 24-year-old resident of Bolesławiec municipality. The suspect was arrested and charged with theft. He faces up to five years in prison.
The recovered vehicle, worth PLN 10,000, was handed over to its rightful owner.
