On 23 May, a contract was signed for the preparation of a technical, economic and logistical analysis, together with a Corridor Study, concerning the expansion/construction of the A4 motorway along an approximately 110-kilometre section of the existing motorway from Wrocław (voivodeship border) to Krzyżowa.
The documentation will be prepared by WYG International, a company based in Warsaw. The contract is worth PLN 1,704,780.00. The contractor has 270 days to complete the task, starting from the date of signing the contract.
Which options will be analysed?
- Option 1. Expansion of the existing A4 motorway as follows: construction of one carriageway (3 traffic lanes plus an emergency lane) parallel to the existing A4, after the prior reconstruction of interchanges and construction of new engineering structures; then diverting traffic onto the newly built carriageway, demolishing the old pavement and constructing the second carriageway (3 traffic lanes plus an emergency lane).
- Option 2. Construction of the A4 in a new corridor running to the south: from, for example, the Wrocław Wschód interchange to an interchange with the existing A4, for example near Legnica (taking the S3 under construction into account), and expansion of the A4 along its existing route on the Legnica–Krzyżowa section (in accordance with Option 1). Along the existing A4 route, on the section that would be replaced by the new route, the demolition of engineering structures and construction of at-grade intersections would be analysed.
- Option 3. Construction of the A4 in a new corridor running to the south, from, for example, the Wrocław Wschód interchange to the Krzyżowa interchange, while along the existing A4 route the demolition of engineering structures and construction of at-grade intersections would be analysed.
General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways:
The analysis will enable further decisions to be made concerning comprehensive solutions for this section of the A4 motorway and the optimal choice of how to adapt the A4 motorway to users’ needs in the near and more distant future.
