In the seventh edition of the Local Government Pearls ranking, Bolesławiec placed seventh. The prestigious distinction for Bolesławiec—presented at the gala during the Local Government Pearls Congress in Gdynia—was accepted by the city president Piotr Roman.

As in previous years, municipalities competed in four categories in the ranking:

  • rural municipality
  • urban-rural municipality
  • urban municipality with fewer than 100,000 residents
  • urban municipality with more than 100,000 residents.

“All municipalities in Poland, regardless of their size, wealth or geographical location, carry out the same tasks and responsibilities toward local communities, as defined by law and determined by events. The title of a Local Government Pearl should go to those that stand out in a special way—not only by excellently carrying out the tasks entrusted to them by law, but also by taking on new tasks and additional goals and, by achieving them, improving residents’ quality of life,” the ranking organizers report.

Due to the recent local government elections, this year the best local government leaders were not selected; instead, municipalities distinguished by the quality of management and residents’ quality of life were recognized. Municipalities were assessed in the following areas: municipal management and finances, spatial planning and infrastructure, the economy, education and upbringing, healthcare, senior policy, public transport, smart city solutions, and the environment and waste management.

Bolesławiec has been among the municipalities that stand out from the others for the third time.
