The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon. The duty officer at the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters received information that a heavy goods vehicle was driving the wrong way on the A4 motorway, heading towards Wrocław.

The police patrol arrived at the scene just 4 minutes after the report. There, the officers saw a heavy goods vehicle on the motorway entrance slip road. The vehicle was facing in the direction opposite to the traffic on the motorway. Fortunately, the driver had not yet managed to join the traffic.

When the truck began reversing, the police officers had no further doubts that the driver did not know what he was doing. One of the officers jumped out of the police car and ran over to stop the Volvo truck driver.

The driver was detained. He was a 47-year-old resident of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship who was completely drunk—there were 3‰ of alcohol in his breath.

The man claimed that he had consumed alcohol the day before and, when he woke up, a voice told him to drive, so... he set off, disregarding the fact that he was going in the wrong direction.

The detainee is a professional driver licensed to operate almost all types of vehicles.

The 47-year-old faces losing his driving licence for at least 3 years, a prison sentence and financial consequences.
