Pedestrians, as so-called vulnerable road users, are completely defenseless against speeding vehicles. An accident involving them has extremely serious consequences, which is why Bolesławiec police officers are reminding pedestrians of their duties as road users.
What are a pedestrian’s duties?
- cross the road in designated places, and if there are none, especially outside built-up areas, exercise particular caution
- never run suddenly onto the road. Stand at the edge of the pavement, at least 30 cm from its edge; look first to the left, then to the right, and once more to the left. When the road is clear, cross—always straight across, by the shortest route
- always cross the road when the traffic light is green
- when the green light is flashing, wait, because the red light will come on shortly
- wear reflective elements, especially after dark, when visibility is poorer and dark clothing means that a pedestrian is noticed by the driver only at the last moment. (A pedestrian wearing a reflective element is visible to the vehicle driver from a considerably greater distance, allowing for an earlier reaction)
- outside built-up areas, always walk only on the left side of the road so that you can see vehicles approaching from the opposite direction.
The officers are appealing to pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads.
