The turmoil at the district hospital in Lwówek Śląski has been ongoing for more than a week. Yesterday, at a meeting of the health committee, doctors demanded that the hospital director be dismissed. The Lwówek district head refused. “As the district head, I will not allow doctors to run the hospital. I regret that there is no willingness to act for the benefit of patients, but only concern for one’s own interests,” said Daniel Koko, the Lwówek district head.
Some doctors resigned in protest.
Admissions to the internal medicine ward were suspended in the evening. On Saturday morning, the evacuation began for patients who had already been admitted. They were transported to Gryfów Śląski and Zgorzelec.
“The fact that there is an evacuation does not mean that the hospital will be closed. We have assurances that this will not happen, and we would like to believe them,” Infolwowek24 was told by Mariola Szczęsna, mayor of Lwówek Śląski.
“It is difficult to predict how long the ward will remain closed and how long the specialist doctors will be on sick leave. It is an unpleasant situation caused by the doctors’ decisions. Three have resigned, and two are on sick leave. We are looking for specialists in internal medicine,” said hospital president Małgorzata Barańska.
The doctors expect a change in the hospital president’s position because, as they say, they cannot imagine continuing to work together.
We learned unofficially that doctors from another ward will also resign.
