During the session, Kamil Raczyński and his mentors were congratulated on their great success by County Governor Tomasz Gabrysiak, members of the County Executive Board and councillors.
At the national level, Lower Silesia was represented by just 10 people. Students from across Poland took part in the Olympiad, with only 48 reaching the stage that guaranteed free admission to university.
“Young people like Kamil, focused on personal success, hardworking, yet sensitive and empathetic, should serve as role models,” said County Governor Tomasz Gabrysiak. “Fortunately, we have many such students. Every county school can boast Olympiad participants and winners of national and international knowledge competitions. I wholeheartedly congratulate Kamil, his parents and his teachers.”
Kamil dreams of studying a subject related to advertising and wants to improve his English, preferably at the University of Wrocław. For several years, he has been studying advertising and how it affects consumers and the emotions it evokes in them.
Kamil’s mentor is Agnieszka Szwed, a teacher of marketing, advertising and economics. She was the one who persuaded the teenager to take part in the Olympiad. She had long believed in his talent. “Kamil is very focused, curious about the world, disciplined and very humble,” praises Agnieszka Szwed. “I know that learning is not a necessary evil for Kamil, but great fun.”
At Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych, teachers focus on each student’s individual development. “We encourage them to take part in various competitions and Olympiads, according to their abilities. We tell them not to worry if they do not win. I explain that they gain valuable experience and become more resistant to stress,” says Laura Słocka-Przydróżna, the school’s headteacher.
The Media Knowledge Olympiad is organized by the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies at the University of Warsaw, the Institute of Media Education and Journalism, and the Faculty of Theology at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw.
