On April 1, a young man called 112 and reported that a bomb had been planted in one of the schools in Bogatynia. The caller added: “April Fools’.”

The report was immediately forwarded to the duty officer at the Police Station in Bogatynia, as well as the fire brigade and emergency medical services. A police patrol was dispatched to the scene, including officers from the Non-Standing Mine and Pyrotechnic Ordnance Disposal Unit.

The officers also took steps to identify the phone’s owner and locate him. Firefighters evacuated the people inside, while police officers searched the school building.

While the police officers sent to the scene were searching the school rooms, criminal investigators tracked down and arrested the caller, who turned out to be a 14-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County.

After the building and the surrounding area had been checked, it turned out that this had indeed been a false alarm. The young man admitted that the call reporting a bomb was meant only as an April Fools’ joke.

The family court will now deal with the prankster. Let us recall that making a false report of a nonexistent threat is punishable by up to eight years in prison.
