Police officers from the Property Crime Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica uncovered a lead to a car chop shop several days ago.
To confirm the information they had received, the officers planned an operation joined by personnel from the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław and detectives from the Life and Health Department of the Legnica headquarters. The aim was to enter several selected locations at the same time.
The result? A man was arrested in the act of dismantling an Audi A5 worth PLN 220,000. Several dozen car parts were also found at the site, including body shells from Audi Q5 and Porsche Panamera vehicles.
Police determined that some of the seized items came from vehicles stolen in Germany just several days or a few weeks earlier. The origin of the remaining parts is still being established.
Two residents of Legnica, aged 39 and 35, fell into police hands. Both detainees were charged with handling property of considerable value obtained through crime.
The case is developing, and police do not rule out further arrests.
At the prosecutor's request, the District Court in Legnica remanded the suspects in custody for two and three months, respectively. The detainees face up to 10 years in prison.
