Sappers from Demining Patrol No. 23 of the Bolesławiec-based 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment wrote on their Facebook profile:

At the construction site of a shopping mall in Bolesławiec, we found a fuze containing no hazardous materials or substances, which we plan to hand over to the Department of City History at the Bolesławiec Museum of Ceramics.

Let us recall. On Thursday, March 28, we reported that demining supervision had found two unarmed projectiles and several inactive fuzes on the site of the former Eastern Railway Station.

As staff warrant officer istotne.pl was told at the time by Radosław Mazur, commander of Demining Patrol No. 23 of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, the find was not dangerous. No one was in danger, and evacuation was not necessary.

The objects were destroyed by Bolesławiec's sappers.

It is also worth recalling that last weekend, a summary of the previous week's (and two-day) operation at the former Eastern Railway Station appeared on the Facebook profile of Demining Patrol No. 23 of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment.

The sappers wrote:

We recovered and placed in blast-resistant containers 58 explosive and hazardous objects:

  • artillery projectiles – 14
  • mortar rounds – 5
  • artillery projectile fuzes – 38
  • other – 1 mortar-round stabilizer.
(On the second day of operations, only fuzes).

The uniformed officers add:

The operation was dangerous for us, as every operation is. Whether it is one unexploded ordnance item or 100, we must proceed very carefully.

However, after conducting a pyrotechnic inspection at the site, we determined that some of the artillery projectiles had damaged fuzes, so special precautions had to be taken. Another difficulty in this case was the very large quantity of metal objects in the ground (so-called metal scrap), which hindered and prolonged the operation.

They also emphasize:

And finally: practically all services were involved, not just us (the Police, Fire Service, medics, local government administration, MZK, PKP and many, many others; apologies if I have left anyone out). We thank everyone for securing our operation.

We also thank the residents for their understanding and orderly evacuation.
