Before 8:00 p.m., sappers from Bolesławiec Sapper Patrol No. 23 suspended the operation to remove projectiles from the embankment near Staroszkolna Street. People can safely return to their homes. The operation will continue on Friday because, unfortunately, new elements of unexploded ordnance were discovered. Work will begin at around 11:00 a.m., but the evacuation radius will be reduced to 150 metres. We will provide ongoing updates.
Let us recall. This morning, employees of a construction company found suspicious-looking objects in the embankment during earthworks. It turned out that they were artillery shells, grenades and fuzes—around 10 items in total. Due to the dangerous discovery, a decision was made to take special precautionary measures.
Residents of nearby buildings were evacuated, including residents of Bielska, Staroszkolna, Chrobrego, Gałczyńskiego, Hutnicza and Wańkowicza streets. People from nearby shops and workplaces were also evacuated. In total, as many as 3,000 people may have been evacuated. Hutnicza Street, part of Chrobrego Street and part of Staroszkolna Street were also closed, as were access roads leading towards Chrobrego, Hutnicza and Staroszkolna streets.
