One of the perpetrators behind the now notorious—and unsuccessful—heist has been arrested. He is 39-year-old Grzegorz G., a resident of Bolesławiec County. On Tuesday, 12 March, he was brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, where he was questioned.

The man, who had not previously been in conflict with the law, was charged. The charges include handling stolen goods, possession of drugs and burglary.

Moreover, contrary to appearances and the means used (a tractor), the criminals were genuinely dangerous. The 39-year-old had a pistol on him, which he threw out of the vehicle. (The weapon was found.) What is more, the tractor used during the heist had been stolen.

The prosecutor’s office will request temporary detention for G. Proceedings to apprehend the remaining perpetrators are under way. (The suspect did not turn in his accomplices.)

As a reminder, an attempt to steal an Euronet ATM took place during the night of 10–11 March, after 2:00 a.m. The perpetrators drove a tractor and a van up to the ATM near the Stara Mleczarnia shopping gallery on Jeleniogórska Street in Bolesławiec. They were preparing to pull out the machine using the tractor and a special strap. The police then intervened. The criminals began to flee.

During the escape, one of the perpetrators drove the tractor into a building at the intersection of Jeleniogórska and Leśna streets. He began to flee on foot. Police officers caught up with him halfway along Zwycięstwa Street.
