Both frauds took place on 26 February in Jelenia Góra. A man called the landline of a 77-year-old woman from Jelenia Góra and claimed to be an officer of the Central Police Investigation Bureau.

When the fraudster obtained information from the woman about the funds she had accumulated in her bank accounts, he told her that she had to withdraw the money, otherwise it could be stolen by bank employees who belonged to a criminal group.

The victim followed the instructions and left all the cash in a place indicated by the fraudsters.

On the same day, the alleged Central Police Investigation Bureau officer called a 90-year-old man. He informed the senior that proceedings were under way concerning a theft committed against the 90-year-old and asked for his cooperation. He stressed that money was needed to lure and catch the thieves.

He instructed the elderly man to leave all the cash he had at home in a place indicated by the quasi-investigator.

To make his version of events seem credible, in both cases the fraudster asked the victims for mobile phone numbers and called them. He maintained contact with the seniors the entire time—of course, until he received the cash.

Police appeal: do not be fooled by fraudsters! Report any suspicious calls to the police immediately by calling 997 or 112.
