31-year-old man was shot by police during his arrest. The doctor admitted him in the morning.
“He was in a stable condition, but he was probably under the influence of drugs, very agitated and aggressive,” says doctor Adam Gryc. “The man required urgent surgical treatment, a laparotomy, because of a gunshot wound to the abdomen. We performed a laparotomy and treated the entry and exit wounds. The bullet passed tangentially through his body and did not damage any internal organs. An ambulance brought him to the hospital; the police were already there. At first, he was aggressive. Contact with him was poor, probably because of his condition after taking drugs. Several people had to hold him while blood was being drawn. He struggled, his contact was impaired, and he spoke of some mission from God. It was chaotic and seemed illogical. When asked what had happened, he said that he had killed the child and his wife. I did not engage in a discussion; I assessed the situation objectively, determining his condition and what I could do in that situation. The situation looked quite dramatic. He was given sedatives because he was aggressive and agitated. Samples were taken for tests, including toxicology, the full anesthetic and surgical profiles, and blood type; it is not known how much blood he had lost. The injuries turned out to be minor, and his hospitalization will end within five days,” the surgeon explains.
