A reader, convinced that she would make someone very happy because she had found a small dog, wrote to us yesterday at around 8:30 p.m.:
Please share this, maybe someone [pieska] is looking for him. Whose [to] lost dog is this? Found today in Bolesławiec, near the Market Square. Anyone interested, please contact me privately.
After the photo of the dog was published, shortly after 10:00 p.m. a man contacted the reader and claimed to be the dog’s owner. He wrote that the dog was his, that there were witnesses to this, that its name was Pimpek and that it had a distinctive navel. He also sent a photo of the dog as proof. He claimed that the dog had run away from him. According to him, his children were attached to the dog. He also warned the reader that the dog chews cables at night. He was supposed to come for his Pimpek on Wednesday morning, between 8:00 and 8:30. After that, contact stopped. The reader wrote to us again today.
[Właściciel]He came forward, but has no intention of collecting the little dog. I waited for him from 8:20 to 9:15, was late for work, and my child did not go to school because someone had to look after the little one. Our female dog is jealous and nips at the little dog, making it clear that she rules the house. I am afraid she might hurt him. I am outraged by such a lack of respect for another person and such irresponsibility! The little dog is absolutely adorable.
The reader did not know what to do in such a situation.
We asked Anna Ryżewska, an animal lover who supports the Animal Lovers Association, for advice. Anna Ryżewska explained to us that the dog has an owner, and that the owner has specific obligations toward the dog. The owner should be identified through the Municipal Police. If the owner evades caring for his dog, he will face legal consequences under the Animal Protection Act.
The reader is disappointed by the attitude of the person who is not coming to collect the lovely Yorkie-Schnauzer mix. The woman does not believe that the dog will be well cared for with such an owner. However, the law is the law, and formally the dog does not belong to her.
What do you think about this case? Did the dog really run away from its owner?
