At the beginning of December last year, officials from the Gmina i Miasto Lwówek Śląski presented the results of the “Using the tourism potential of partner cities in the border area” project, carried out together with the Czech partner, the City of Chrastava.

The aim of the project was to “improve the use of the tourism potential of the partner cities of Chrastava and Lwówek Śląski by improving public tourism infrastructure in the Czech-Polish border area”.

The so-called Lwówek Śląski Switzerland was renovated. The following work was carried out there:

  • renovation of the existing stone steps leading to viewpoints located along the tourist trail
  • securing viewpoints by installing barriers
  • development of rest and recreation areas, including:
    • installation of ready-made elements, such as wooden tables and benches and litter bins
    • installation of covered tables with seats
    • installation of a “gabion” barrier as a campfire area.

The total value of the work carried out at “Lwówek Śląski Switzerland” was PLN 126,444.

However, as is often the case, not everyone liked these changes. As we read on gazeta.pl:

The photos also appeared on social media, where they met with criticism. Commenters pointed out that the barriers were poorly integrated into the surroundings and had ruined the character of the place.

“Railings are okay, but their disastrous lack of integration into the picturesque landscape is a catastrophe,” “Designers will come and go, but dozens of holes drilled into the rocks will remain forever,” “The whole atmosphere has been ruined by this junk. Couldn’t they have made the railings out of wood, since they’re so necessary?” – people wrote on forums.

Officials are defending their idea, however. “The color is warning-related. Whether people like them was not taken into consideration. We were guided not by aesthetic considerations, but by safety concerns,” Lwówek Śląski Mayor tvn24.pl Mariola Szczęsna said in an interview with.

What do you think of Lwówek Śląski Switzerland after the renovation? Have you been there recently? Do you like the railings? We invite you to join the discussion.
