On Wednesday, February 6, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, together with a delegation of local government officials from Lower Silesia—including representatives of the signatories of the “Sudeten Declaration” and the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship—took part in meetings with Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and Corina Creţu, Commissioner for Regional Policy.
At the European Commission’s office in Brussels, Wałbrzych Mayor Roman Szełemej, leader of the Sudety 2030 Partnership and the “Sudeten Declaration,” presented Commissioner C. Creţu with the Sudety 2030 Development Strategy.
It is worth recalling that the Sudety 2030 Development Strategy is a tool intended to help shape socio-economic development policy in the southern and western parts of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It meets the main objectives of the European Union’s cohesion policy set out in draft legislation related to the new budgetary perspective after 2020.
As a result, it will facilitate further efforts to obtain financial support from various sources—European Union, national, regional and other—which is needed for sustainable development and the removal of barriers currently hindering that development.
The main topic of discussions involving delegates from Lower Silesia was the future of southern Lower Silesia in the European Union’s next financial perspective. The demands put forward included, among other things, maintaining cohesion policy funding for the southern and western parts of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship after 2020 at the unchanged level. The goal is to reduce development disparities and achieve by 2030 a significant improvement in key areas that determine the pace of economic and social development in this part of Lower Silesia.
