On Monday alone, the Lubin police duty officer received several calls about attempted scams. The caller pretended to be a daughter and convinced the person on the other end of the line that she had been in an accident and that money was urgently needed. Otherwise, the “daughter” would face prison.

The police ask people to remain vigilant and warn their loved ones about the perpetrators’ methods.

Officers:

We remind you that unexpected calls from people claiming to be daughters, grandchildren, cousins or police officers do not have to end in financial loss.

How can you avoid being scammed?

The officers inform:

A police officer will never call to inform you about an operation being conducted.

The police will never ask you to give money to someone, transfer it to an account or leave it somewhere!

And they add:

Let’s not be scammed! Discuss unusual situations with other family members, and report any suspicious requests to borrow money to the police.
