The incident occurred on January 11, 2019, in Legnica. An unidentified man entered one of the banks and, waving a machete, demanded that all the money be handed over. The frightened employee of the branch gave the man the cash.
An employee of a company located nearby heard a call for help and immediately reacted by blocking the perpetrator’s exit. The attacker then smashed the glass in the branch’s door and fled with the stolen cash.
After being notified of the incident, police officers began searching for the aggressor. The nearby area was checked, and evidence was secured at the scene.
As a result of further actions and the collected evidence, officers identified and arrested a 54-year-old resident of Legnica County. Some of the cash stolen by the man was also recovered.
It turned out that the arrested man had previously committed a similar offense, for which he had been convicted and sent to prison.
At the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica, the recidivist was placed in temporary custody for three months. He now faces up to 18 years in prison for committing the offense under recidivist conditions.
