As the istotne.pl website reported, Bogusław Wojtas, deputy head of the Jelenia Góra Region Board of NSZZ Solidarność, talks at the eleventh hour took place on Monday, December 10. The result? The trade unionists got what they wanted. There will be no strike, but there will be pay raises!
Let us recall. Recently, we reported that a strike could take place at the Gerresheimer plant in Bolesławiec on Tuesday, December 11. This information was confirmed in an interview with us by Franciszek Kopeć, head of the Jelenia Góra Region Board of NSZZ Solidarność.
As F. Kopeć stressed, as many as 90 percent of those who voted in the referendum supported the strike, so Solidarność was carrying out the employees’ wishes.
The strike was supposed to continue until its objective was achieved—that is, until Gerresheimer fulfilled the protesters’ demands.
On November 29, we reported that NSZZ Solidarność trade unionists from Gerresheimer Bolesławiec S.A. (formerly Polfa) had organized a protest picket.
More than 80 people took part in the protest. People walked near the Gerresheimer company building and shouted “Solidarność!” and “We want to live with dignity!”
“The work is very demanding, and we work in high temperatures. I do not expect this situation to improve radically. The most important thing is to earn a decent wage. We are demanding a PLN 500 gross pay increase,” Sylwester Gałbiuk from Solidarność told us.
We tried to find out how much the company’s employees currently earn, but the Solidarność representative did not want to give a precise answer. He only said that the wages were unimpressive.
