The strike organizers clearly emphasize that the action is not directed at customers of the Social Insurance Institution. Its aim is to publicize the problems and persuade decision-makers to enter into dialogue. The protesters accuse the government side of a lack of openness to talks and of ignoring employees’ demands, which has led to an escalation of tensions and the need to take such radical action.
Because of the strike, which will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the protesters are asking people to limit personal visits to ZUS offices. Instead, they encourage people to use the available electronic platforms.
– We will do our best to ensure smooth customer service, and benefits will be paid on time – assures Iwona Kowalska-Matis, ZUS regional press spokesperson in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
Not only a matter of pay rises
The protest is not solely about the amount of the expected pay rises. The main problem is that medical assessors at ZUS are to receive pay rises of approximately 25 percent, while the remaining employees will not receive even a 3-percent increase in salaries.
According to materials prepared by the organizers, one of the main slogans of the action is “Decent pay, respect”. At the same time, the protesters emphasize that the strike is not directed against customers of the Social Insurance Institution. “We work for you – we are fighting for better conditions” reads another slogan of the initiative.
