The incident occurred on Monday, 29 October. Two young residents of Bolesławiec went mushroom picking in the forest near the village of Dobra (Bolesławiec municipality). Suddenly, fog appeared and the pair lost their bearings.

At around 5:00 p.m., the woman from Bolesławiec called the emergency number 112 and informed WCPR about the situation. The lost pair were advised to reach a road with some identifying marker and provide their location to the emergency services. The young mushroom pickers did just that.

As a result, the officers quickly found the missing pair. Fortunately, neither of them was hurt.

This is a good opportunity to recall some valuable advice from the officers.

How to pick mushrooms safely in the forest

  • when going to the forest, be sure to take your phone with you; it may be useful in an emergency
  • when walking in a group, do not separate from it
  • if you take children or elderly people with you, keep them in sight
  • if you do not know the area, do not go deep into the forest; stay near the place where you entered it; remember distinctive features, such as the numbers on boundary posts
  • tell someone where you are going on your forest trip.

If a missing person finds their own way back, they should immediately inform the police that they no longer need assistance.

What else is worth remembering?

  • when going to the forest, secure your vehicle properly: lock the doors and windows; leave the car in a visible place so that it does not become an easy target for thieves
  • do not leave valuable items in the vehicle (navigation equipment, a laptop, mobile phone, handbag, wallet or documents).

Officers:

We also remind you that stopping or parking on a motorway or expressway is prohibited anywhere other than in a designated area.
