A total of more than 1,400 vehicles were inspected, and unfortunately more than 800 violations committed by drivers or passengers were identified. As research and tests show, seat belts are the most effective known means of saving human life during a road incident. When involved in a serious accident, they most often provide the only chance of survival.
Police statistics confirm this fact. They show that the main causes of fatalities and injuries among road-accident victims are violations of regulations concerning the mandatory use of these devices, as well as devices intended for the safe transportation of children.
The “Seat Belts” operation is conducted periodically by police officers on all roads in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Its purpose includes raising road users’ awareness of the serious consequences that driving without fastened seat belts can have in the event of a collision or accident, as well as how dangerous it is to transport children incorrectly.
Unfortunately, as these and previous operations have shown, a considerable number of people travelling in vehicles disregard the regulations in this area. Let us remember that there are currently significantly more vehicles on the roads due to holiday tourist traffic. Therefore, we once again appeal for caution and compliance with safe-driving rules. In a dangerous situation, seat belts can help us do so.
