Spring grass burning is a real plague. Many people believe that it improves soil quality. The exact opposite is true: burning accelerates soil erosion and impoverishment. The flames destroy not only dry grass, but also the root system, flora, bacteria and fungi—in short, the entire richness of nature is destroyed.

Grass burning is also one of the most common causes of forest fires. Burning meadows also pose a threat to human settlements.

Despite bans and appeals, people continue to burn grass. Komenda Powiatowa Państwowej Straży Pożarnej w Bolesławcu reminds everyone that burning meadows, pastures, wasteland, ditches, roadside strips, railway tracks, as well as reed beds and rushes is an offense punishable by arrest or a fine.
