Drivers whose cars are registered in Poland will no longer have to carry the following from Monday:

  • registration certificate
  • temporary permit
  • document confirming that a vehicle liability insurance contract has been concluded.

What must drivers carry?

During a roadside inspection, drivers will only need to carry their driving licence. (Please note that these regulations do not apply to vehicles registered abroad.)

How will the police verify the data?

Under the new law, data concerning the vehicle and its documents will be verified in CEP – the Central Vehicle Register.

How will registration certificates be confiscated?

If, during a roadside inspection, a police officer notices, for example, that our vehicle is in poor technical condition, the document will be confiscated electronically. Using a mobile terminal, the officer will enter information about the discovered irregularities into the CEP system. (The driver will receive a receipt).

What happens next?

The driver will be required to provide information about the repaired defects to the authority that confiscated the document. If the registration certificate was confiscated by a police officer, the driver should go to any police unit.
