A neighborhood officer from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica, junior aspirant Artur Koszycarz, was driving along Pocztowa Street when he noticed an elderly woman standing in the middle of a two-lane road, next to the median strip. (Crossing the road at this location is prohibited. Traffic is heavy because national road no. 94 runs through the area.)
Seeing the volume of traffic and the danger the elderly woman was in, the officer decided to help her. He stopped the patrol car, activated the warning lights, got out of the vehicle and took the senior by the arm. He then stopped the traffic and safely escorted her across the street, explaining the rules of moving safely along the road and crossing at designated pedestrian crossings.
The senior explained to the police officer that she was trying to get to a bus stop because she had a medical appointment. (The reason? Joint problems and difficulty moving around.) The woman was unable to use the footbridge, and every step caused her severe pain.
Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters:
The officer demonstrated kindness, courtesy and, above all, a willingness to help another person. Through his actions, he showed what daily service in the Police is also about.
