Piotr Roman spoke about the effects of introducing free public transport in the City of Ceramics during Wednesday’s meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council. It emerged that residents of one of the housing estates were taking bus trips to visit other estates. What is more, people who had never used public transport before have begun travelling on MZK vehicles.

– I cannot draw conclusions that go too far, but it seems to me that traffic in central Bolesławiec has decreased – the mayor said. – But perhaps it is a matter of the weather.

The mayor also addressed opposition taunts suggesting that he was using free public transport to run his election campaign. P. Roman stressed that municipal officials had announced the introduction of such a solution four years ago.

He added:

In the future, following the example of Lubin County, we should seriously consider extending free public transport to neighboring municipalities.

(It is worth adding that free public transport is to be introduced throughout Estonia. As for Poland, the authorities of Częstochowa are currently considering implementing this solution).
