The incident occurred on Thursday, August 23, at the popular Krępnica (Bolesławiec commune). Anglers and a fisheries guard noticed a diver swimming with an almost 70-centimetre speargun. They began following him and called Janusz Latoch, the county commander of the Social Fisheries Guard.
He advised them not to approach too closely and to document the entire incident. (There are photographs and a short video.)
As J. Latoch emphasised in a conversation with istotne.pl, human life is the most important thing. Such a speargun can easily penetrate a 2–3-centimetre-thick board, let alone what could happen if the poacher shot at a person. And all it would take is for his finger to slip...
The anglers and the guard followed the criminal. He ran ashore and left the area. Police are carrying out activities in the case.
When asked for comment, Janusz Latoch summed it up: “It makes your hands drop!” The suspect could even be held responsible for endangering human life, because swimming in a body of water used by people with such a speargun is prohibited. The man should have a safety diver and dive in a designated area. What is more, a court may revoke his diving licence for this.
We will return to the subject.
