Warm days, especially during the holidays, encourage us to relax by the water. We often go swimming or use watercraft. However, for this leisure time to be safe, we must remember that the safety of ourselves and our children in these places largely depends on us. That is why Lower Silesian police officers remind us of several basic rules.
- What should we remember?
- safe swimming means swimming in a designated place that is properly marked and where a lifeguard is responsible for safety. “Wild swimming areas” always have an unknown bottom and depth, and the water may be contaminated. Swimming is also prohibited on sections of waterways used for navigation and near water equipment and structures.
- let us follow the rules of the swimming area where we are staying. Let us follow the comments and recommendations.
- let us not jump into the water while overheated. Before entering the water, let us wet our chest, neck, nape and legs with it—we will avoid thermal shock.
- let us never enter the water or swim after consuming alcohol.
- while sunbathing, let us pay attention to the people around us. It may turn out that someone needs our help. If we are able to help, let us do so, but within the limits of our abilities. If we do not feel capable, let us immediately alert other people and the emergency services.
Let us not forget that water is an element that can pose a tremendous threat to people. If we follow basic safety rules, we can make our time by the water enjoyable and ensure that it ends happily. Let us remember that safe swimming largely depends on us!
