Once again, the Society for the Care of Animals is organizing a public campaign in Poland against abandoning animals during the holiday season: “Don’t Abandon Them!”. During this period, the number of abandoned animals increases by 30% every year!
The slogan of this year’s TOZ campaign is: “A dog has the awareness of a 3-year-old child! Would you abandon your child?”. Video below:
For our part, we remind you that abandoning an animal in Poland is treated as animal cruelty, a crime that can result in up to three years behind bars.
What should we do when we see someone abandoning their pet right before our eyes?
It is best, of course, to write down the car’s registration number, because without this information it will be difficult to prove anything against the owner. (But of course, it only takes a moment, and we will not always have time to do so.)
If the dog has been hit, the matter should be reported to the municipality, which has contracts with veterinarians. If the animal is healthy, the shelter is our remaining option.
