As part of the “Seat Belts” operation, Lower Silesian police officers inspected nearly 1,400 vehicles. Drivers on the roads of our voivodeship violated traffic regulations 886 times; as many as 476 drivers were not using seat belts. In 67 cases, passengers were not wearing their seat belts, while 11 cases concerned the improper transportation of children.
In Bolesławiec County, police officers identified 41 cases of people failing to wear seat belts, 38 of which concerned drivers.
As research and tests show, seat belts are the most effective known means of saving human lives during a road incident. When involved in a serious accident, they most often provide the only chance of survival.
Police statistics confirm this fact. They show that the main cause of fatalities and injuries among road-accident victims is the violation of regulations requiring the use of these devices, as well as equipment intended for the safe transportation of children.
The “Seat Belts” operations are carried out periodically by police officers on all roads in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Their purpose includes making road users aware of the serious consequences of driving without fastened seat belts in the event of a collision or accident, as well as the dangers of transporting children improperly.
What does the police appeal for?
Unfortunately, as these and earlier operations show, a significant number of people traveling in vehicles disregard the applicable regulations. Let us remember that there are currently far more vehicles on the roads due to holiday traffic. Therefore, once again, we appeal for caution and compliance with safe-driving rules.
When setting off on holiday, let us make sure that we return safely as well. In a dangerous situation, seat belts can help us do so.
