By court decision, the Ukrainian national has been remanded in custody for three months. He may face up to 8 years in prison.
Let us recall. The incident occurred on July 4, at approximately 7:30 p.m., in Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, at the intersection with the road toward Szczytnica. The 25-year-old minibus driver, a Ukrainian citizen, failed to yield and hit a 41-year-old cyclist. The cyclist was wearing a helmet, but nevertheless suffered very serious injuries.
Bolesławiec firefighters arrived at the scene very quickly because they were nearby securing the entrance to national road 94, which was closed because of an oily spill on the roadway.
A Polish Medical Air Rescue helicopter was called for the injured man. The rescuers were to take him to hospital. Unfortunately, the man died during resuscitation, after the helicopter had already arrived.
